Summer vacation is over and the children are back in schools. Though we already interacted with the children at Jeevanahalli School last month, a formal start to our activities is yet to be done. We plan to do it on this weekend. In this academic year, we are going to cover Mathematics, Sciences, English and Social studies for the 5th, 6th and 7th standard children. Besides academics, we will conduct extra curricular activities and fun based learning activities to all the children from 1st standard to 7th standard. These are going to be done weekly.
Four subjects, fifty children and weekly activities! This is indeed a challenging task but becomes easy if we have volunteers in sufficient number. We require two groups of volunteers, of 3 members each. One group goes to the school on 1st and 3rd Saturdays to cover two subjects and the group goes on 2nd and 4th Saturdays to cover the other two.
Please mark one Saturday pre-lunch session for these activities and we are sure you will continue coming to the school later on. Those interested, please contact Srinath @ 9886777878 or Ranjith @9980627550.
Everybody agrees that we had a nice experience working with Ananya, Samskar , Jeevanahalli school and Anatha Shishu Sevashrama and we learnt a lot from this experience. Our knowledge and experience should be put to effective use by expanding our activities to other schools, orphanages and NGOs. Who is going to give information on these institutes? Yes, it is we, all of us.
We request you to pass any information you have on schools, orphanages and child development NGOs which deserve help from us. It will be of great help. Only thing to be kept in mind is that voluntary activities can be organized only in Bangalore and Hyderabad. But financial and infrastructural support can be done to institutes at any place, provided they desperately need our assistance.
The most exciting part of the post is that our logo is ready. But, you have to wait for a few more days to see it!!! Website is under construction and the initial version can be ready by this month end.
The next post will be talking about our vision statement, long term plans and registration objectives. Keep checking the blog!
About Sugathi
Education improves the level of human well being. Basic education covering reading, writing, studying basic sciences and doing arithmetic is considered as a crucial aspect of quality of life.
Sugathi (which means welfare or bliss) is a group started with an aim of working for social development by contributing in the areas of basic education and child development. Sugathi firmly believes that these are the areas of great relevance with respect to the future of children.
Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam says in his book Indomitable Spirit . "A scene appears in front of me where there is a child, a teenager, an adult and a leader. All of them are facing a situation of human need, but each one reacts differently. The child asks , "What can you do for me?" The teenager says , "I want to do it alone." The young person proclaims, "Let us do it together." The leader offers, "What can I do for you?" The education system has a tremendous responsibility to transform a child into a leader – the transformation from "What can you do for me?" to "What can I do for you?". These leaders, as enlightened Indian citizens, work for the development of society as a whole.
Short term goals
1.Initially, we help the organizations/ charitable societies/ NGOs , which support the school education of the poor and underprivileged children. Our help can be of any kind i.e., infrastructural or voluntary support.
2.Giving our time to children is as important as donating money. We can spend our free time with them on a regular basis. We can teach them basic Maths, Sciences and English etc . We can organize events say games, painting , singing, quiz programs or anything which makes their mind sharp and brings out the creativity. We will conduct these kind of workshops and activities in Government schools also.
Long term objectives
1. We will address the grass root problems prevailing in the Indian education system viz., out-of-school children, school dropouts and quality of education etc.
2.We will sponsor the education of meritorious but poor children at school level.
3.We will help Government schools to have conducive environment.
