SAV School was founded in 1993 as part of social reform movement undertaken for the social reform of Jogini women. Jogini woman is a woman from dalit section who is almost forcefully dedicated to local Goddess against her will and then declared an open woman for all (like a common prostitute within the village). Her children are considered bastard children and rendered fatherless within that village. Neither the society nor the government bothered to take care of these women for a long time. This is the most inhuman system that has been in vogue for centuries together in Telangana region and Nizamabad district had most number of these unfortunate women by the time Samskar began its work in 1988.
Samskar is a non-profit organisation founded by Sri Lavanam and Smt. Hemalata Lavanam, two reputed Gandhians and social reformers of Andhra Pradesh. They have been close associates of Acharya Vinoba Bhave and participated in various social movements along with him. Under the Gandhian inspiration and encouragement from Vinoba Bhave they started two major social reform movements in Andhra Pradesh viz., Criminal Tribe Reform Movement at Stuartpuram in Guntur District (1973) and Jogini Reform Movement in Nizamabad District (1988). Both these groups have been utterly neglected by mainstream society and government for a long time. The success of these two social reform movements is now a great history in Andhra Pradesh.
In the post-reform period the focus of the organisation was on the education of the children along with others like provision of alternate livelihood opportunities, women empowerment, mainstreaming the reformed families and health. Unless one takes care of the children and women in the post-reform phase, they will naturally tilt towards earlier traditions viz., Jogini tradition or crime.
Against this background SAV school was established at Varni in 1993 with around 36 children from reformed Jogini families. Later on the school admitted other poor and needy children so as to give the school a formal look. Thus the school was promoted as a tool for smooth socialisation and easy mainstreaming of the children coming from the tagged communities/families viz., Jogini families and criminal families. Over a period of time poor children from other dalit sections, children of HIV+ parents, orphans and children of female sex workers have been admitted. The school is running successfully with a track record of 99% pass in class X.
The school has been supported by private donor agencies for the last few years. By the end of June 2007 the school will be left donorless as the current donor, Plan International, will phase out its support by June 30, 2007. At this juncture we are appealing to people concerned like you and your friends for support to school. In the absence of the this school (particularly) many children may become dropouts or child labourers or young Jogini adults or young thieves or homeless or anti-social.
About Sugathi
Education improves the level of human well being. Basic education covering reading, writing, studying basic sciences and doing arithmetic is considered as a crucial aspect of quality of life.
Sugathi (which means welfare or bliss) is a group started with an aim of working for social development by contributing in the areas of basic education and child development. Sugathi firmly believes that these are the areas of great relevance with respect to the future of children.
Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam says in his book Indomitable Spirit . "A scene appears in front of me where there is a child, a teenager, an adult and a leader. All of them are facing a situation of human need, but each one reacts differently. The child asks , "What can you do for me?" The teenager says , "I want to do it alone." The young person proclaims, "Let us do it together." The leader offers, "What can I do for you?" The education system has a tremendous responsibility to transform a child into a leader – the transformation from "What can you do for me?" to "What can I do for you?". These leaders, as enlightened Indian citizens, work for the development of society as a whole.
Short term goals
1.Initially, we help the organizations/ charitable societies/ NGOs , which support the school education of the poor and underprivileged children. Our help can be of any kind i.e., infrastructural or voluntary support.
2.Giving our time to children is as important as donating money. We can spend our free time with them on a regular basis. We can teach them basic Maths, Sciences and English etc . We can organize events say games, painting , singing, quiz programs or anything which makes their mind sharp and brings out the creativity. We will conduct these kind of workshops and activities in Government schools also.
Long term objectives
1. We will address the grass root problems prevailing in the Indian education system viz., out-of-school children, school dropouts and quality of education etc.
2.We will sponsor the education of meritorious but poor children at school level.
3.We will help Government schools to have conducive environment.

I have come across your appeal about "Samskar" How do we donate to that school? Could you post such information as well along with your request for donation?
